Privacy Policy

The short version

• Chats aren't saved unless you choose. When your chat ends, it's gone, unless you tap Save (kept encrypted for up to 30 days so Dr Ed can remember you on that browser) or "Make me better" (shared with identifying details removed to help improve Dr Ed).
• Email is optional. You can chat without one. If you choose to give us your email, we keep it until you ask us to delete it.
• We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
• We measure visits and donations with Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion tracking. See "Analytics and ad measurement" below.
• Donations are processed by Givebutter and Zeffy. We never see or store your card number.
• Kids under 13 can only keep chatting after a parent confirms. Before that, we collect only the parent's email.

This Privacy Policy explains how DR SEX ED AI UNIVERSITY INC, a Florida not-for-profit corporation and 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 33-4612296) ("Dr Sex Ed," "we," "us"), handles information when you use drsexed.ai (including our donation pages) and the Dr Ed app at drsexed.ai/chat (the "Service"). It's part of our Terms of Use.

What we collect

Your email address (optional). You can chat without it. If you choose to give it to us, we use it only for the purpose you gave it for, and we keep it until you ask us to delete it.

Avatar choices. The settings you pick for your avatar, like its name (default Dr Ed), persona, age, gender, orientation and likeness. We use them to set up your avatar for your chat.

Your age group. Whether you're 13 and up or under 13, so we can apply the right limits and controls. You tell us your age when you start, and we save only your age group.

Live chat, video and audio. During a video chat, your camera, microphone and messages are processed in real time so Dr Ed can see, hear and answer you. This chat content isn't kept after the chat ends, unless you tap Save or "Make me better." We don't use your camera feed to identify you or build a face profile.

Saved chats. If you tap Save, that chat is kept encrypted for up to 30 days so Dr Ed can remember you on that browser. It isn't used to train or improve Dr Ed. Tap "Delete my chats" at any time to erase it sooner.

"Make me better" chats. If you click "Make me better," that chat is saved and used to help improve Dr Ed. Only the text transcript is saved (no audio or video), with identifying details removed, for up to 2 years.

Parent's email (for kids under 13). See "Children's privacy" below.

Technical info. Like most websites, our hosting and security systems automatically log basic technical information, such as IP address, browser type, device type and pages visited. These logs are kept for 30 days.

Camera and microphone

Video chat needs your camera and microphone. Your browser or device asks your permission first, and you can switch them off at any time in your settings. We use them only to run the live video chat. We don't record your camera or microphone. If you tap Save or "Make me better", we save only a text transcript.

How we use information

We use information to:

• run the live video chat and personalize your avatar;
• apply age-appropriate limits and parent controls;
• improve Dr Ed, only with chats you choose to share through "Make me better";
• keep the Service safe and secure, prevent abuse, and follow the law;
• answer your questions and send important notices about the Service.

We don't use your chats for advertising, and we don't sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share information only as needed to run the Service, with:

• Service providers that process data for us under contract, such as our hosting provider, our email delivery provider (for parent consent emails), and our AI, voice and video avatar providers. They may use the data only to provide services to us.
• Donation processors (Givebutter and Zeffy), which process your gift. See "Donations" below.
• Google, for website analytics and ad measurement. See "Analytics and ad measurement" below.
• Legal and safety reasons. If required by law, or to protect someone's safety, including reporting child sexual exploitation to the appropriate authorities as required by law.
• A successor organization, if Dr Sex Ed merges with or transfers its activities to another organization, subject to this Policy.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar tools that are needed to keep the Service working and secure. On our website pages, we also use analytics and ad measurement cookies from Google, described in the next section. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, but parts of the Service may not work without them.

Analytics and ad measurement

Our website uses Google Analytics (measurement ID G-H56C57B410), including cross-domain measurement with our Givebutter donation page, and Google Ads conversion tracking. These tools use cookies and similar technologies to measure visits to our pages, how people find us, and whether a visit leads to a donation. They collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and the referring link. They don't collect the content of your Dr Ed chats, and these Google tags don't run inside the Dr Ed chat at drsexed.ai/chat.

Google processes this information under its own privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on and manage how Google uses ad information in Google Ads Settings. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser.

Donations

Gifts to Dr Sex Ed are processed by Givebutter and Zeffy, and each handles your payment under its own privacy policy. From them we receive your name, email address, gift amount and receipt details. We never see or store your card number or other payment card details. We use donor information to send receipts and thank-you messages, and to keep the records nonprofits are required to keep. We never sell donor information.

How long we keep things

• Chat content: not kept after the chat ends, unless you tap Save or "Make me better."
• Saved chats: up to 30 days, encrypted, or until you tap "Delete my chats."
• "Make me better" chats: up to 2 years, with identifying details removed.
• Optional email address: kept until you ask us to delete it.
• Parent's email, if consent isn't given: deleted within 7 days.
• Technical logs: 30 days.

Deleting your information

You don't need an account to use Dr Ed. If you want us to delete something you've given us, such as your optional email address, a parent's email address a saved chat or a "Make me better" chat, email info@drsexed.ai and we'll delete it, except where we have to keep something for legal or security reasons.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

We take kids' privacy seriously and follow the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

How it works for kids under 13:

1. Anyone can start a chat. After a short, general intro, Dr Ed asks for a parent or guardian's email address.
2. Before a parent agrees, the only personal information we collect is the parent's email address. We don't ask the child for their name, location, photos or anything else. During this short intro the camera stays off; it's voice or text only.
3. We email the parent to explain what the Service is and to ask for consent. The parent confirms by clicking a link in that email.
4. If the parent doesn't consent within 7 days, we delete the parent's email address.
5. If the parent agrees, the child can keep chatting with age-appropriate limits and parent controls, and the parent can turn chat off at any time.

Parents' rights. A parent can, at any time, review their child's personal information, ask us to delete it, and refuse further collection or use by contacting info@drsexed.ai or (202) 987-4503. We don't make a child give more information than needed to use the Service, and we never sell children's information.

If you think we've collected information from a child under 13 without a parent's consent, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Teens (13–17)

Teens can use the Service on their own, with age-appropriate content limits. No sexually explicit content is provided to minors.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and others), you may have the right to:

• know and access the personal information we have about you;
• correct it if it's wrong;
• delete it;
• get a copy of it in a portable format;
• opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information or targeted advertising (we don't do either);
• limit the use of sensitive personal information (we use it only to provide the Service);
• not be treated differently for using your rights.

As a nonprofit, some state laws may not apply to us, but we offer these rights to everyone anyway. To make a request, email info@drsexed.ai or call (202) 987-4503. We'll verify your request (usually by confirming details you've given us) and reply within the time the law requires. You can use an authorized agent, and if we deny a request you may appeal by replying to our decision.

Sensitive topics

Sex education conversations can involve sensitive topics like sexual health and sexual orientation. That's one reason chats aren't saved unless you choose. Please only click "Make me better" if you're comfortable sharing that chat with us.

Keeping data safe

We use reasonable safeguards, such as encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls and trusted service providers, to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects you, we'll notify you as the law requires.

Where data is processed

The Service is run from the United States, and your information is processed in the US.

Changes to this Policy

If we update this Policy, we'll post the new version here and change the "Last updated" date. For big changes, we'll give extra notice, like a notice on the site or in the app, and we'll ask parents for new consent where COPPA requires it.
